According to the numbers of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, this is the plastic surgery most taken by women in Brazil. It consists of positioning silicone implants behind the mammary glands in order to increase the volume and improve the shape and consistency of breasts.
Among the causes of women’s dissatisfaction, we have: the non-development of mammary glands during adolescence; differences between breasts; strong weight loss or decreased volume of breasts after breastfeeding.
Scars for the introduction of these implants are minimal, and can be located in the furrows below the breasts (infra-mammary), in the inferior contour of the areolas (periareolar) or in the armpits (axillary).
Today, the implants are made of cohesive silicone gel. By having technology on their surface, some are considered “lifelong”, with no need for replacement within 7 to 10 years. There are several shapes, coatings and volumes, and the choice of the implant is an individualized process between you and your plastic surgeon. He/she will consider the width of your chest, amount of existing breast tissue, amount of skin, your height and your final desire regarding the volume to be achieved.
It is important to emphasize that the introduction of breast implants does not cause inconveniences for future examinations such as ultrasound or mammography, and also does not prevent future lactations if the patient becomes pregnant.
