Surgery to correct the prominent ears popularly called “fanned ears” is named otoplasty. The goal here is to attain the curves and creases present in a normal ear, and to bring it closer to the skull, thus removing the signs that characterize it.
The ideal age for performing it is the “preschool”, that is, from 6 to 7 years of age.
We can perform the surgery at this age because then the ear is already fully formed, almost reaching the size of that of an adult. By doing so, we will also avoid problems with school friends and their unnecessary jokes and comments. However, nothing prevents such correction from being done at other stages of life, with no additional risk when this surgery is performed in adult ages.
